The TP-Link VIGI NVR1004H is a professional 4-channel network video recorder (NVR) designed to serve as the central recording and management hub for small to medium-scale IP surveillance systems. As part of TP-Link’s VIGI professional surveillance ecosystem, the NVR1004H focuses on reliability, efficient video compression, flexible playback options, and broad camera compatibility through ONVIF support.

At its core, the VIGI NVR1004H supports up to four IP camera inputs, enabling centralized video recording and monitoring from multiple locations within a single system. The recorder provides an incoming bandwidth of up to 80 Mbps and an outgoing bandwidth of up to 60 Mbps, ensuring smooth data handling for high-resolution camera streams.

The NVR supports advanced video encoding formats, including H.265+, H.265, H.264+, and H.264. H.265+ technology significantly reduces storage requirements and network load compared to traditional codecs, making it suitable for continuous recording and long-term archival without compromising image quality.

For display output, the VIGI NVR1004H features both HDMI and VGA video outputs, supporting simultaneous HDMI/VGA output. The recorder offers flexible recording modes, including manual recording, scheduled recording, and motion-detection-based recording. Backup options include regular backup and video clip backup via USB storage devices. Two USB 2.0 ports are provided for connecting a mouse, keyboard, or external storage device.

For storage, the VIGI NVR1004H includes one SATA interface supporting a hard drive capacity of up to 10 TB (hard disk not included). This allows scalable local storage based on system requirements. A hard disk must be installed for the NVR to operate.

The NVR supports smart event handling, including motion detection, video tampering detection, line-crossing detection, intrusion detection, region entering and exiting detection, object abandoned or removal detection, vehicle detection, and human detection when used with compatible VIGI cameras. Anomaly alarms such as video loss, offline status, disk exceptions, IP conflicts, and login exceptions are also supported.

Audio functionality includes two-way audio support via RCA audio input and output ports, allowing users to listen and communicate in real time when paired with compatible cameras and audio devices. Audio compression formats supported include G.711A, G.711U, and G.726.

From a network perspective, the VIGI NVR1004H features a 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet interface and supports ONVIF and CGI interoperability, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of IP cameras. It supports remote access via Android and iOS mobile devices, web browsers, and TP-Link’s VIGI Security Manager software.

The NVR can be managed through multiple interfaces, including the local NVR UI, web UI, VIGI app, and VIGI Security Manager, providing flexible configuration and monitoring options for installers and system administrators.

Physically, the recorder features a compact desktop design suitable for placement on shelves, racks, or desks. It operates within a temperature range of -10°C to +55°C for the NVR unit and 0°C to +40°C for the power adapter. Maximum power consumption (without disk) is 4.25 W, supporting energy-efficient continuous operation.
